TOXICOLOGY
Drug and alcohol use continues to increase in the UK with 10% of adults admitting to taking drugs in the last year.1 This has been raising concerns across employers, especially in safety-critical environments such as the construction industry.
A survey in the UK has highlighted that a large proportion of workers are concerned about the effects of drugs and alcohol in the industry and 35% said that they had noticed colleagues under the influence of drugs and alcohol.2 These alarming statistics are even more troubling when combined with the increased reports of depression within the industry.
Join this educational webinar as we hear from Andy Stevens, a construction mental health advocate, about the link between mental health and drug/alcohol use in the construction industry.
Andy will share his own experiences of working in the construction industry discussing how to identify triggers as well as the impact of drug and alcohol use. Andy will leave the audience with a greater understanding of the strategies on how to manage these triggers in a healthier way.
Andy Stevens runs his own building and consultancy companies. He is a strong advocate for mental health, especially in the construction industry and has presented a series of interviews with people in the industry who have struggled with mental health.
Speaking openly, he shares the story of his own difficulties and how he overcame them. He also speaks at exhibitions and conferences on mental health in construction. He advises companies and Governments in America, Canada and the UK as well as chairing many panels on this topic.
